Raya’s work possesses a soft dreamlike quality which soothes the senses. Working on both paper and canvas, her textured layered paint draws the viewer in and invites them to interpret her abstracts as they wish. She speaks to her collectors through her art on a subtle personal level.
Raya studied under New College art Professor Jack Cartlidge. She also spent 3 years studying print making under Robert Rhodes. Upon graduation she accepted a position with a major printing company designing art. Later she traveled to France to study plein-air painting. The artist currently resides in the Southwest where the dramatically changing skies inspire her palette.
“I try to picture the spaces where my art will reside. I want the texture, color, and content from my own experience to warm the unknown rooms where the art will hang. I endeavor to keep a sense of balance and harmony in the process of making my art.”
Raya’s work can be found in collections in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Also in ABC shows in Atlanta and Orlando, First Interstate Bank in Denver and Phoenix and the Point Hilton in Phoenix.
