Craig Stephens is a Northern California painter specializing in realistic still lives. The artist carefully places his objects and paints them as seen with changing light. Many of his Trompe L’Oeil pieces follow in the style of renowned American artist William Harnett. Stephens carefully chosen subjects are both playful and intellectually serious.
Stephens graduated from UC Davis in 1993 where he studied with Wayne Thiebaud, Dave Hallowell, William Wiley and Roy DeForest. His influences include Edward Hopper, Duane Keiser as well as Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin.
The artist received an award at the 65th annual Crocker-Kingsley Exhibition in which the juror was Patterson Sims, curator of the Seattle Art Museum.
